GMS Presents Guys and Dolls

Friday 23 Oct – Saturday 7 Nov

Guys and Dolls is a classic American musical set in the 1950s, a vibrant era marked by jazz, swing music, and lively nightlife in New York City. The story revolves around the colourful and comedic escapades of gamblers, crooners, nightclub performers and dreamers.

The plot centres on Nathan Detroit, a charming but scheming gambler who is desperately trying to find a suitable location for his floating craps game. His long-suffering fiancée, Adelaide, is eager to get married but is tired of his constant scheming and the chaos that surrounds his gambling operations.

Meanwhile, Nathan’s rival and fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, is a smooth-talking risk-taker who wagers that he can seduce the devout and morally upright Sarah Brown, a missionary committed to saving souls. Sky’s daring bet leads him to invite Sarah on a dinner date to Havana, Cuba, which sparks unexpected feelings and personal growth for both of them.

As the characters’ lives intertwine, humorous and heartfelt moments unfold. Adelaide’s longing for marriage, Sarah’s moral convictions, Sky’s daring nature, and Nathan’s schemes all collide in a colourful tapestry of love, luck, and redemption. Through iconic songs like “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” “Luck Be a Lady,” and “My Time of Day,” Guys and Dolls captures the spirit of 1950s New York and the timeless themes of hope, romance, and the pursuit of happiness. Audiences can expect dazzling, high-energy dance numbers, memorable songs, larger-than-life characters, and plenty of laugh-out-loud comedy. Guys and Dolls delivers the perfect blend of excitement, charm, and classic Broadway magic, making it a show that will delight theatre lovers of all ages.
