The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has activated a minor flood warning for Tuggerah Lakes with an expected 1m peak. This level will generally have minor impacts on foreshore reserves.
However, given BOM’s rainfall forecasts over the coming 3-4 days indicate <50mm of rainfall, this level of rainfall is not enough to exacerbate flooding in the Tuggerah Lakes estuary.
The Entrance Channel remains open with Council staff monitoring closely. Based on current conditions, berm intervention would occur when a 1.3m (moderate) flood is predicted – this is not the case. There is no expectation of property damage from the current rainfall event as a result of rising levels of Tuggerah Lake.
Council will continue to provide updates to the community as required.
Council urges the community to take care on the roads, don’t drive through flooded waters and please exercise extra caution due to some localised flash flooding.
For information about road closures search ‘road closures’ at Council's website: centralcoast.nsw.gov.au
For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW State Emergency Service on 132 500. In life threatening situations call triple zero (000) immediately.
